My name is Jason, and you might be familiar with some of my past websites, Rock Subculture and the Original Prop Blog.

I have a lifetime of experience from growing up as a collector (toys, comic books, videogames, music, movies and television memorabilia) and I’ve been involved in the entertainment world in a number of different roles from running the Original Prop Blog website and related podcast about collecting original props and costumes from Hollywood as well as working as an administrator of the main discussion forum for that hobby to my Rock Subculture site featuring my work as a live concert and music industry photographer and journalist to working as a producer on the Disney+ series, Prop Culture to running a major auction house dealing in entertainment memorabilia for many years. I also have a Master’s Degree from Loyola Marymount’s School of Film and Television.

While I am working on a number of new projects, I wanted to have a fresh start with this separate venture with a new brand and related content, hence PopCultureKind.

I anticipate most of the content to be in the form of videos on my new PopCultureKind YouTube channel, which will primarily be interviews with those involved in film, television, music, comic books and more. My goal is to share insights and perspectives from those who create art as well as those who collect it.

One of my long term goals has always been to grow interest in collecting and archiving assets from movies, television series and shows, bands and music artists, comic book art, and more.

Many fans of pop culture do not know that a market for these things exist, and others may assume that the cost of such items is out of reach.

The market can be both fun and challenging to navigate. I learned early on in my serious collecting over the past few decades that the most beneficial aspect of this area of collecting is creating and building your own personal network.

Becoming acquainted with like-minded kind of pop culture enthusiasts is both personally rewarding (building what can become true, real life friendships as well) but also helps you become more educated in the field and having resources to reach out to about issues of authenticity, finding rare items, valuations, and more.

So a part of this new PopCultureKind brand is helping to support collectors and enthusiasts to build upon their networks and share with one another (ideas, information and more) in the spirit of goodwill and kindness among like-minded people.

What the heck does PopCultureKind mean?

I like the sound of it. A little nonsense in your life puts things in perspective.

Kind has various meanings, all of which seem to fit in with nice people into celebrating the arts and people who are maybe a bit odd and outside of the norm. Like close encounters of the pop culture kind.
